Plot Summary


During the Salem Witch Trials, American history took a dark turn. It begins in when a group of girls venture into the forest along with their black cat. Once they are caught by Reverend Parris Betty falls quickly into a coma which drew a rather large crowd. The rumor of witchcraft happening in the forest beings flowing through the streets like it was the plague. The girls leader, Abigal, is questioned and tries to assure everyone there was nothing none other than they were dancing together.

Everyone is now gathered around Parris's home, Abigail shushes the other girls telling them to keep silent. The local farmer Mr. Proctor goes in to talk to Abigail who has worked for his family in previous years. Together they were carrying on a secret affair with each other leading her to being fired the next year by his wife. Betty finally wakes up and starts screaming at everything around her. Everyone was gethering around her bed with thoughts of witchcraft buzzing around. A secret discussion between Giles and Thomas argues that there is a fault line running through Salem. They then demand to speak to Tituba who confessed to have been conversing with the devil and using dark magic. Betty and Abigail are quizzed as well, when they also agrees with Tituba saying there were other townsfolk as well beign drawn in.

A week passed by when Elizabeth and John discuss the trials being held and the ongoing number of people being acused of witchcraft. Elizabeth begs John to tell everyone that Abigail is a fraud, but he declines her wish. She is convinced they still have feelings with one another. Later on Reverend Hale pays them a visit and discusses the current news and learning that Francis and Giles wives had been arrested. Officers come in and continue by arresting Elizabeth accusing her of witchcraft as well as the other wives.

During court Mary tells Judge Danforth she will testify that the girls were lying and that Danforth is suspicious of Proctor's motives. Everyone learns that Elizabeth was pregnate and that she will be spared for the time being. Mary says that the girls are infact lying and when they are brought in, the girls turn everything aorund and accuse Mary of bewitching them. Proctor confesses his affair with Abigail as a result of pursuing it because of Mary's jealously. Mary then said her own husband was a witch, which then he becomes furious and is then arrested and Hale stops the proceedings.

Half a year passes and the leaves start to fall bringing autumn about. The witch trials seemed to have made everyone very uneasy about their neighbors and Abigail runs away taking Parris's money along. Hale has lost the courts trust and tells the accused witches to falsely confess in order to save their lives, who all refuse to do so.

Elizabeth decides to talk to John and convince him into confessing. The court rejoices and they want him to announce it to the public. Unfortunately Proctor becomes angry and ends up following the others into the gallows, ending the Salem Witch Trials.
